Barcampghent titles Paris Hilton

The first barcamp in Ghent is just finished. Bloggers and geeks united here to exchange ideas. The organisation was spotless and the IBBT buildings proved to be an excellent location for the 100 internet addicts that were all carying laptops.

Being my first barcamp, I had no idea what to expect. For those of you who are over 30: It reminded me of the old Fidonet gatherings. In those pre-internet times, we already started social networking avant la lettre. Some people come to meet old friends, others want to find a soulmate. But they all have in common that they communicate easier through a keyboard then in real life. No surprise that one of the sessions was about "how to conduct a productive discussion" using the talkingstick method.

But the majority of the talks were about technical stuff. Html, CSS, Ruby and video editing were all discussed. It was nice to see peers sharing information with peers in a very interactive format. Also the softer topics like "what is an e-society" drew a good amount of people.

Above all, it was a fun day filled with great speaches and interesting conversations. Now what about the Paris Hilton title? Thanks to Bram from Concentra, we learned a few things about writing for the web. One of his tips was to use a title that draws attention. But he also warned us that we shouldn't all start using Paris Hilton quotes. But it's okay, since I'm the only one using his trick !

Check out my pictures and those of other attendees.
