The internet ID protection agency

Facebook has gone mainstream. But is the mass market ready to live with online identities?

Yesterday's family gathering for Christmas learned me 1 thing: everyone is on Facebook. Some use it to stay in touch, others use it to find new friends. But sooner or later all of them will be confronted with the unpleasant side effects of having your life on-line: There is this nephew who wants his drunk picture removed, this niece who doesn't want her employer to know she's pregnant and the uncle who is afraid of receiving invites from the gay community.

On Michel Vuijlsteke's weblog I found a link to this hate campaign of someone who got dumped by his girlfriend. Upon closer inspection it appears to be a viral for a Sex Toys shop. But I'm sure things like this happen all of the time with real people.

I predict there will be a big market for helping people protect their on-line identity. In the past, people needed help in keeping their computer free of virusses. In the future, people will need help in protecting their internet identity.

So what are you waiting for? Start the clean sweep and found your own internet ID protection agency!
